Arist's Statement

My “Inspiration” for these works is the timeless beauty of the Japanese Dry Landscape Garden.  My “challenge” was to transfer the garden onto the vertical plane, in a form that can hang on the wall.

Once I had developed my methods, I started improvising with the elements like a jazz musician improvises on a theme.  Where some of my pieces are close to the traditional concept, others are imaginative variations.  While in others I have embedded a symbol in the sand, symbols of peace, love and compassion, as well as images from nature.

My intention was also to bring the beauty of nature indoors. The muted tones of weathered wood, moss and lichens, the textures of gravel and sand, the graphic patterns in dried leaves, lotus pods and seashells.

Creating artwork that inspires and influences people in a positive way, in addition to being visually arresting, is the fulfillment of my artistic vision.

I always enjoy your comments so feel free to leave one before you leave.
